Ofcom has announced that Royal Mail will be issued a £21m (US$28m) fine after it failed to meet First and Second Class delivery targets in the 2024/25 financial year.

This is the third time in recent years that the UK postal industry regulator has found Royal Mail to be in breach of its regulatory obligations. The post was fined £5.6m (US$7.5m) in November 2023 and £10.5m ($14m) in December 2024.

Ian Strawhorne, director of enforcement at Ofcom, said, “Millions of important letters are arriving late, and people aren’t getting what they pay for when they buy a stamp.

As part of its work to make a positive impact on communities across the country, Australia Post has awarded grants to 152 grassroots community and not-for-profit groups through its annual People of Post Grants.

This year, the funding available to individual groups has been doubled to up to A$2,000 (US$1,315), with the total investment reaching more than A$290,000 (US$190,683). The initiative sees Australia Post team members nominate local not-for-profit community initiatives that address some of Australia’s most pressing social issues including mental health, disaster support and resilience, Indigenous children’s literacy, and environmental sustainability.

Whistl has received a gold ranking from EcoVadis, the international platform which evaluates companies on their environmental performance and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

In four years of assessment, Whistl has risen through the grading system and is now in the top 5% of all companies rated by EcoVadis.

DHL Supply Chain’s donation to Irish social enterprise FoodCloud will be used to fund the lease and maintenance of 11 vans and support the group as it tackles food waste and food insecurity.

FoodCloud works with a network of Irish charities, community groups and retailers to collect and redistribute surplus food. The vehicles, funded by the donation from DHL Supply Chain, are intended to improve the transportation capacity of FoodCloud, increasing its fleet from five vans to 11.

FedEx has awarded a total of US$300,000 to small businesses via its Entrepreneur Fund, which was created in collaboration with Hello Alice and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN).

The 30 grant winners are to receive US$10,000 each. All grant applicants receive free access to the Hello Alice platform full of tools and resources, small business owner events, workshops, ‘ask me anything’ sessions and chats. The FedEx Entrepreneur Fund is designed to support veterans and small-business owners with disabilities by providing access to funding, resources and networks to help them succeed.

FedEx and non-profit humanitarian organization Direct Relief have delivered 52 tons of medical aid to Ukrainians.

Aid aboard the FedEx Express Boeing 777 cargo aircraft included emergency medicines and supplies, including health kits, trauma and wound care items, chronic disease and chemical exposure medications and antibiotics. FedEx Express delivered this to Poland from the US via a FedEx humanitarian relief flight. This follows FedEx and Direct Relief’s first charter flight of aid for Ukrainian refugees in March and is the latest in a series of shipments from Direct Relief.

In honor of World Refugee Day on June 20, FedEx Express and Rise Against Hunger (RAH) teamed up to pack food boxes for Ukrainian refugee families living in neighboring countries.

FedEx volunteers in four European locations packed 2,400 food boxes, 1,400 of which were packed at the FedEx Express headquarters in Atherstone, in the UK Midlands. The food boxes are being shipped to refugees fleeing the borders of Ukraine into surrounding communities in Poland, Moldova and Romania.

FedEx Express is providing a three-year grant to environmental non-profit Rewilding Europe in support of its ninth rewilding landscape in the Affric Highlands, Scotland.

Launched by Rewilding Europe together with Scottish non-profit Trees for Life and local stakeholders last September, the project seeks to create a vast nature recovery area across the Highlands.

Over the coming three years, FedEx funding will support the non-profit’s work with local communities, organizations and landowners, to enhance biodiversity, address climate change and create new opportunities by helping to develop a nature-based economy.

Parcel delivery provider Evri (formerly Hermes) has published its first ever environmental, social and governance (ESG) report, with the aim of becoming the UK’s most sustainable delivery business.

The report covers key achievements and performance data, as well as the challenges and opportunities the business has faced this year as it strives to reach net zero in direct and indirect emissions by 2035.

Australia Post has started the application process for its 2022 Community Grants program, which aims to help build community connections to support the mental health and well-being of Australians across the country.

From June 6, not-for-profit groups across Australia can apply for grants of up to AU$10,000 (US$7,228) to support projects with the primary purpose of improving mental health and well-being in local communities. Last year’s program saw half of all grants made to organizations in regional and remote locations.
