Canada Post has announced it has begun work to transform the country’s postal services via two core initiatives: converting the remaining addresses that receive door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes and modernizing its retail network.

According to the post, the initiatives will help to meet the evolving needs of Canadians in a financially sustainable way, and it is working closely with its bargaining agents and the Government of Canada to achieve this.

The move to community mailboxes

While almost 75% of Canadian addresses already receive their mail and parcels through some form of centralized delivery, there are still approximately 4,000,000 addresses that still receive door-to-door delivery services.

UK postal operator Royal Mail has announced it has reached an agreement with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on the deployment reforms to its universal service obligation (USO) and will begin piloting the changes at 240 delivery offices in the coming weeks.

The agreement includes a pay rise and a series of enhanced terms and conditions for delivery and processing CWU-grade staff that joined on or after December 1, 2022.

The CWU will shortly issue a consultative ballot, after which the USO reforms will be rolled out across Royal Mail’s 1,200 delivery offices and this is expected to be complete by December 2026.

How are parcel volumes and online shopping habits evolving and how is An Post meeting those needs?

The rise of online shopping in Ireland is quite extraordinary and in the last 5-6 years we’ve seen our parcel volumes increase by about 300%. When Covid came around, parcel volumes went from 300,000 parcels a week to 600,000 parcels a week overnight, and what we’ve seen since then is there has been a steady march and the market is absolutely growing as whole.

From April 1, customers will be able to buy the new Yelllow cell-phone plan from Austrian Post at 1,700 post offices and postal partners, as well as online at www.YELLLOW.at.

The postal operator will also be offering a range of smartphones from Samsung, Xiaomi and Emporia as well as 5G routers from ZTE at its post offices. These will be available to take away the same day or will be delivered to the customer’s home, depending on availability.

Belgian postal operator Bpost has announced its plan to install more than 12,000m² of additional solar panels at its distribution centers this year as part of its commitment to sustainable energy.

The post will install the technology at nine new solar panel parks in Belgium, accounting for an annual CO2 reduction of 509 tons. The first of the new solar panel parks has already been installed in Ostend.

According to Bpost, its goal is to generate as much electricity as possible in a sustainable way.

UPS has unveiled its largest and most advanced logistics center in Asia-Pacific, to help its customers boost productivity, operate more efficiently and strengthen supply chains.

The US$100m UPS Taoyuan International Logistics Center (TILC) in Taiwan features advanced automation technology, a full suite of value-added capabilities and state-of-the-art storage and warehouse management solutions for customers in a wide range of industries.

The 81,000m2 center is situated 5km from Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), Taiwan’s largest cargo airport, to provide fast and seamless connectivity to the global UPS network via the 22 flights the company operates into and out of TPE every week.

InPost has announced its financial results for Q4 2025, revealing all-time high group revenue of PLN 4.6bn (US$1.2bn) – up 32.6% year-on-year (YoY) – and record parcel volumes of 417.6 million parcels, up 30% YoY.

According to the company, the growth in both revenue and parcel volumes was driven by its UK business (+240% and +132.2% YoY respectively), followed by the Eurozone and Poland.

InPost also expanded its out-of-home (OOH) network extensively in 2025, adding 14,200 lockers to bring the total number of OOH points to 94,536, including 61,196 automated parcel machines (APM), across Europe.
