Scandit has raised US$80m to finance global expansion and technology leadership.

The funding will be used to enter Asia-Pacific and Latin America and expand operations in North America and Europe.

It will also fund R&D to help enterprises upgrade business processes using computer vision and augmented reality (AR).

The Series C funding was led by Silicon Valley venture capital firm G2VP, along with Atomico, GV, Kreos, NGP Capital, Salesforce Ventures and Swisscom Ventures.

Velodyne Lidar has signed a three-year agreement with LTD to use its sensors in its TractEasy autonomous electronic baggage tractors.

The TractEasy is a zero-emission tow tractor that transfers baggage and freight from airport terminals to aircraft areas autonomously.

It can also transport goods at industrial sites and logistics centers, moving up to 25 tons with a top speed of 25km/h.

Nicolas Verin, CEO of LTD-Europe, said, “Velodyne’s high-performing sensors help TractEasy navigate and maneuver in complex and live ramp environments to move cargo in a safe, reliable way and does not require any infrastructure change.”

Erich Smidt, executive director Europe of Velodyne Lidar, said, “These tractors demonstrate how Velodyne lidar sensors provide the range and field of view needed to gain visibility on what’s ahead on dynamic roadways, and detect and avoid potential obstacles for safe logistics operations.”
